USING FIGMA FOR UX WRITING

Microsoft 365 Main Admin Center

Audience: IT Administrators

My Role: UX Writer

Challenge:

Speed up the time lapse between writing and review and re-write.

Solution:

Did the writing with the designer while they were designing the screens at the same time, for a much faster initial thorough pass. The secondary changes were done the same way. Saved us at least a week in handoff delays.

Figma for writers

Once you get past the learning curve, Figma is a great platform for writers, with the strong ability to put in feedback from reviewers on the exact spot they want changes. The artboards can show the entire flow at once, plus alternative situations and label every screen. Best of all, you can work in the same space at the same time with the designers.

Below are some examples of editing accomplished in Figma.

Figma and Onboarding Manual

To help the team at large onboard new writers, I wrote down everything I had to figure out or ask about and made an online manual of sorts. There was a significant entry on Figma, because it has a learning curve.

The manual was so popular that it was shared with other teams.
